I love giving myself 24 hours to process. It is probably one of the best gifts I can give myself. Yesterday we met with our cancer doc. We like this guy, he's really smart, he knows we are smart and we can have a very productive dialogue about the next few months of our lives.
So we start cycle three next week. Monday of next week. This cycle involves only three doses which doesn't sound bad, but it means Avi will spend two to three days in the hospital to get his treatment. At first I was like, Ok, that will get us used to him being in the hospital again right before he heads in for the transplant which is a 5-6 week long recovery in the hospital. No, we get a four week vacation in between. Considering how good he feels right now, and the boost in his spirit and well-being and he's gained weight. I'll take it.
Now what was really surprising yesterday was the fact that during our meeting we all realized (includingthe doc) that the Radiologists that we met with last week had no clue what they were talking about. Now this is good...FIRST we were cleear to ask them if Avi will be recieving any extra Radiation because he showed positive in one test on a sub-microscopic level. "Oh No. No extra Radiation. Only what we told you." We asked if they were sure. "Yes, there will be no extra Radiation." There will so be extra Radiation. There is no way to get around it, if we don't want this to come back and land in his brain. Then, I asked them how much and they made it seem like nothing, like it would be a walk in the park, it was such a low dose of Radiation. I don't know if they even read Avi's medical records, but the amount of Radiation over his WHOLE body is is very high and could be fatal if he weren't getting the transplant. They didn't explain that to us either, and we asked. WE ASKED!!!!! We are not dumb. So, we busted the Radiaologists yesterday. It felt great too. I wasn't very comfortable after last weeks consultation. Now we know why.
